The Little Things Photo Challenge {Day One}
>> Monday, June 13, 2011
Sarah-Anne was asking what the gist of this whole challenge is...
Basically, I am taking this week to refocus myself and remember the little things in life.
Also, I don't want my photography to become something I must do or something that must be perfect.
I find myself being very picky about my photos, and then I'm discouraged when it doesn't turn out like
I'd hoped. Photography is something I really love to do and I need to just do it. This week, I'm taking
pictures rather than making pictures.

Well, today I took lots of pictures of nothing important and loved it.
There are pictures from babysitting, around the house, errands, and my cats :) You'll have to be gracious
when it comes to my cats - I love them, and I don't normally take pictures of them (unless they're doing
something ridiculously cute), but since I'm taking pictures of everything this week, I'm afraid you might
see a lot of my cats. Maybe I just won't share all of those pictures ;)
On to the slideshow! I decided to make a slideshow with music so it's a little less boring ;)
...enjoy!
{Song: Wind That Shakes The Barley, Alisa Jones}
Remember the wreath in my slide show? A couple weeks ago, my Dad coiled up some roots from our
yard and threw it in the yard waste pile... then I saw it and snatched it up because I had just seen a
tutorial for some adorable paper flowers from Emily at Jones Design Company!
It's super, super easy and I just adore my new wreath! Click here for the flower tutorial on her blog.
Now, remember the hippo pillow in my slide show? I made that one up (which means it's easy).
You simply...
1} Cut 2 matching rectangles or squares for your pillow, whatever size you please (I used some leftover muslin).
2} Find a silhouette of a hippo online (or your animal of choice).
3} Print and cut it out.
4} Trace around it onto pretty fabric and cut it out.
5} Pin your hippo (right side up) to the right side of one pillow piece and sew it on (now you'll have a cute
frayed edge).
6} Place pillow pieces right sides together and sew around the edge leaving an opening large enough to turn
right side out, then turn right side out.
7} Stuff your pillow and stitch up your opening.
All done! Told you it was easy :)

I.ADORE. this.
and to think I sort of kicked it all off.
*giggles in joy*
my favorite part? the part where you said you loved it. Because I knew you would....and my favorite picture? the one where Leah is IN the freezer. It seems like the perfect everyday pic that you would never take but it just is so perfect.
and the cats are CUUUUUUUTE.
I love you!!!!!

What a fun challenge, Emily! I loved your pictures from today. That hippo pillow is adorable!! :)
<3
Love it, Emily! You kitty is super cute. :)
What's the name of the song you used in the slideshow. I really like it!
Thanks ladies!
Sereina, the song is Wind That Shakes The Barley, from Alisa Jones' album Irish Dreams II. Thanks for pointing that out, I'll add the song title below the slideshow from now on :)
Great post! I was going to do something similar, and do a summer challenge that focused on the small things that we often overlook, but I changed my mind and decided I'm going to try a 365 project! It's a little daunting, I'll admit, but I'm also looking forward to it!
By the way, I think the hippo pillow and the root wreath are adorable. I've got to get crafting. ;)
Miss Emily ~
Love the uplifting tempo of your selection of music...the slideshow was fun to watch and all your pics were fun.
The wreath turned out to be a work of natural beauty and the music paper used for the flowers...a melodious touch. ;-)
Great post...a day in the life of Miss Emily. :D very sweet!

Great pictures! My little brothers and sisters love "Up". We have a dachshund who acts so much like Dug. He's my favorite!
