Ben and I have a puppy!
She is one of 8. Momma is a black pit bull (who belongs to Ben's brother), and Daddy is a golden
retriever (who belongs to Ben's family). She's the only blonde one of the litter :) Both her parents are
wonderful dogs and great with children. We can't wait to see her personality evolve.
Right now she's only 3 weeks, so we'll be taking her after we're married.

We only have two problems:
1) She has no name.
2) My cats will most likely be jealous.

Now my questions for y'all are:
1) Any name suggestions?
2) Any tips on welcoming new pets into a home with existing pets?

Hope everyone has a wonderful week!

Jealous cat #1 ;)

I'm sooooo excited for your new pup!!

I'm not sure about names...sometimes the more you spend with the pet, the more you see what she could be named. :) How she seems....

I guess one big thing about introducing pets to other pets is: tone of voice! When you are holding one, and introducing another, speak in a joyful voice....yet be calm....like you are at the sea or something....relaxed, happy....the pets will sense that you are not fearful or anxious about them meeting. :)

and I guess they will just learn to get along! :)

Love you! the puppy is sooo adorable. :)

How sweet! Puppies are so... adorable! {though troublesome at times... :)} Choosing a name is indeed very hard, so I am afraid that I won't be of much help!

Many Blessings,
~Shannon~

AWWWW! The puppy and the kitty are sooooooo cute! :D

Makes me want to cuddle up with them and say "cuchy cuchy koo!" ;D

1) Why, "Kitty", of course! I have always wanted to name a dog Kitty :)

2) My great-grandmother owned a kennel where she bred dalmatian puppies and she also kept two cats. Every time a new puppy was introduced, (so my Grandfather says) the cats would walk up to the puppy and scratch his nose. This let the puppy know who was boss and even when it got older the dog remembered the lesson and wouldn't bother the cats. I don't know if this information will actually help you or not, but the story always made me chuckle at the cat's ingenuity.

By the way- congratulations on your upcoming marriage!

About the name, you might want to wait and see it's personality..

I saw where it's only 54 days to your wedding, and I just want to tell you that I am SO excited for you. I hope that you and Ben have a WONDERFUL life together, and that the Lord will truly bless you both:)

In Christ,
Rebecca

uh...pray for harmony
between cats and dogs?

The most likely scenario will be that the cats will tolerate the pup till they understand that she isn't going away.
Then they might actually live in peace.
Might.

Cats & dogs have very different energy.
It will prove to be quite entertaining for a while, but

there will be hissing, swatting, and hair-raising.

Hi, Emily!

First, let me say congrats to you and Ben! I found your blog via Practically Pink and have loved following y'all's story!

We have a cat and 2 labs. One of them came to us as a 5 week puppy and the cat was NOT happy! We protected little Josie until she was bigger, then they had to have it out. There was some hissing, swatting, and whimpering; but we have no more problems! Maybe not the best way to solve that problem, but it worked for us!

She is such a pretty puppy!

In Christ's love,
Grace

Oh, what a precious puppy! I bet it will be fun having her around the house, although your cats may get a little jealous as you mentioned! :)

Many Blessings,
Jenna

Oh my word she is soo cute!! I love pit bulls and retrievers! Some people are afraid of pit bulls but our neighbor has one and his name is Baby. He is sweet as can be!

It will be so much fun to have a new puppy! Picking names is fun and hard...

1) Blondy, Goldy, Mina, Kitty, Sweety (or Sweat Pea)

2) We had to introduce our puppy yorkie to our two 2 year old schnauzers. We figured out that the best thing to do was to put each of them (on their leashes) next to each other keeping them at a reasonable distance and letting them get used to what the other looks like. Then put one or the other in his crate (or playpen) and let them sniff each other. It might be different since your introducing a cat and dog... I'm not sure...

Anyhow...lol... that was a lot of info. Hope this helps!

Many Blessings!

She is so cute! I'm guessing since you called it she, that the pup is a girl. :D
hmmmmmmmm...I'll have to think of names to give you :D . What about Cindy? When I was younger, that was one of our many dogs name. :D
